Arik Armstead, a key member of the San Francisco 49ers’ defense, won’t be available when they begin their Week 13 preparation.

According to coach Kyle Shanahan, the 49ers defensive lineman is not anticipated to practice with the team on Wednesday. Armstead is currently dealing with a foot problem; the injury’s cause is unknown. The Sacramento native has been relatively healthy this season, and this is his first appearance on the report in weeks.

For the seasoned 49er, 2022 was a different story as he only appeared in nine games because of lower-body injuries. A year later, he has already surpassed that total by playing in each of the Red & Gold’s 11 games in 2023. Last season, he struggled with plantar fasciitis and missed time due to the injury.

At this point, Shanahan and the 49ers are unsure if the injury is the same.

This season, San Francisco has relied heavily on the 30-year-old Armstead. He has played 11 games and collected 476 defensive snaps. In 2023, the native of Sacramento has five sacks, 13 quarterback hits, and 26 combined tackles. But over the past month, he has picked up 4.5 sacks and 20 pressures since Week 8 against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Armstead will miss practice on Wednesday along with wide receiver Ray-Ray McCloud (rib) and running back Jordan Mason (hamstring). Spurford, a right guard, will be limited due to a knee injury.
