Christian McCaffrey, a running back for the San Francisco 49ers, won the FedEx Player of the Week award in Week 12 and has since gone four for four in nominations for the 2023 award. He had previously triumphed in Weeks 1, 2, and 4. The seventh-year player scored two touchdowns and gained 114 yards on 19 carries, along with five receptions for 25 yards, in the 49ers’ Thanksgiving night 31–13 victory over the Seattle Seahawks.

With two more rushing touchdowns in Week 12, McCaffrey now has 11 for the season, which is more than any other 49ers running back in a single season. After scoring touchdowns in back-to-back games, he ended his previous 17-game touchdown scoring streak (which included the playoffs) in Week 10. However, he has since resumed his campaign.

For the past thirty years, quarterbacks and running backs have been eligible for the FedEx Air and Ground NFL Players of the Week awards based on their weekly performance. Weekly winners are chosen by fans through an online vote that takes place after a player is nominated. The award sponsor will collaborate with the Thurgood Marshall College Fund to donate $2,000 to historically black colleges and universities across the nation in the names of the winning quarterback and running back for the 2023–2024 NFL season.
