” … but I think to have somebody that’s played as well as he’s played, has had as many experiences as he’s had to be out there and available is kind of rare.”

Carson Wentz, a quarterback, was signed by the Los Angeles Rams last week. a move that elicited a particular kind of response, but it’s unclear what this team’s future holds for the seasoned quarterback.

When asked what he thought McVay would do with Wentz after this season, he told reporters, “I think that’s to be determined.” (H/T Pro Football Talk) “I believe we were merely thrilled to have him inside the structure. We were in need. We’re thrilled to have Matthew [Stafford] back, as I previously mentioned, but it’s kind of uncommon to have someone who has played as well and experienced as much as he has available to them. Thus, we were thrilled about the chance to let him into the building, and that’s essentially where things stand at the moment.

But the Rams weren’t the only team that had their eye on Wentz.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, who cited sources, the New York Jets camp had checked in on the 2017 Pro Bowler. After the team lost Aaron Rodgers in Week 1 to a torn Achilles, he was on the short list of free-agent quarterbacks.

Wentz seems to have been added by the Rams as a true backup.

McVay continued, “I think it’s really just a chance to upgrade the quarterback room.
“We felt that this would offer an opportunity for someone who has played a lot of high-level football to get him in here and get him kind of familiar with some of the things that we’re doing, God forbid something were to happen where [Stafford] wasn’t available.” That was the basis for the choice.
