Italy is apparently showing interest in the Spaniard.
Liverpool certainly appears to be among the few teams that could challenge for the Premier League title this year, even though some poor finishing kept them from winning all three points at the weekend. This is largely because of their dynamic midfield, which has nearly all young, forward-thinking players in it after an unexpected age and player profile shift during the Saudi Summer.
Thiago, who hasn’t played for the Reds this season and hasn’t started a game since January of this year, is one of the few remaining veterans on the roster. In fact, he is the oldest outfield player currently with the team. Despite being an incredibly talented football player, the 32-year-old’s availability was always going to be a problem due to his history of injuries. In his three and a half years at the club, he has only managed to play a little over 6,000 minutes.
There is little chance Thiago’s contract will be renewed because it expires in the summer, and many teams are naturally eager to take a chance on a talented but injury-prone player who is available on a free transfer.
Fichajes claims that Juventus and Inter, two of the biggest teams in Italy, are among them. This information is so logical it almost seems suspicious. While Thiago has always been an underappreciated athlete with a quick first step and a surprising leap, it is clear that his injuries have slowed him down somewhat. If he wants to play at the highest level, it would be wise for him to play in Serie A, which is known for being the slowest-paced of Europe’s top five leagues.
It’s not going to fill Liverpool’s coffers — although those freed-up wages can probably be put to good use elsewhere — but it would be nice to find a solid landing spot for Thiago when his Anfield career is over. Perhaps the club can even finish his tenure off with a trophy or two.
