Report on match as holders Man City defeated Swiss team Young Boys 3-0 to secure their spot in the Champions League round of 16.

Erling Haaland was a doubt going into the game, but he bounced back to score twice, and Phil Foden also had a great performance.

Erling Haaland scored twice in a 3-0 victory over Young Boys at the Etihad to allay concerns about his health and guarantee Manchester City’s spot in the round of 16.

Following his ankle sprain on Saturday during the 6-1 demolition of Bournemouth in the Premier League, Haaland made a full recovery and scored the first goal for the treble-winning team after 23 minutes from the penalty spot.

After a classy run and a goal from Phil Foden in first-half stoppage time, Haaland scored six minutes into the second half to complete City’s fourth straight victory in their Champions League defence.

Shortly after the third goal, Sandro Lauper, a midfield player for the Swiss team, was sent off for a second bookable offence, sealing the victory for City. The team led by Pep Guardiola leads Group G, and they can maintain that lead if they defeat RB Leipzig in their upcoming Champions League match.
