Daichi Kamada was a target for Liverpool prior to his departure from Eintracht Frankfurt.

An agent involved in Daichi Kamada’s eventual transfer said that Liverpool was one of the teams interested in the player while he was still at Eintracht Frankfurt.

This past summer, Kamada was able to leave Frankfurt as a free agent and sign with Lazio of Serie A. Since then, he has shown promise in a season that has been mostly disappointing for the Roman team.

But according to an interview with popular FIFA agent and middleman Gianluca di Carlo for Sport Italia, Liverpool was an admirer of the Japanese playmaker before his contract with Eintracht expired (h/t Liverpool Echo).

Even before Kamada became a free agent, “many clubs had gone for him,” according to the agent who assisted in negotiating his Lazio switch. While Kamada was still affiliated with Frankfurt, Liverpool was reportedly among the teams interested in signing him. He was viewed by the Reds as a creative and goal-threatening midfield option.

Building on successful seasons in the past, Kamada scored 16 goals and 7 assists in 47 games for Frankfurt in all competitions last season. The 27-year-old’s diverse skill set was recognised by Liverpool as a potential exciting addition to their engine room.

Liverpool sought to gain an advantage by expressing interest in him prior to the expiration of his contract, as his deal was about to expire. But the Reds were let down when Kamada declared himself a free agent.

The midfield player was available for free transfer after Lazio emerged victorious in the race. However, Liverpool’s alleged interest indicates that they were aware of Kamada’s whereabouts long before he left Eintracht.

His talent was identified by the recruitment team while he was still affiliated with the Bundesliga team. Sadly, it was not meant to be, and the Japanese star will now display his abilities somewhere else.

After Kamada entered the last year of his Frankfurt contract, Lazio ultimately proved to be the best move for him going forward. Even though this one ultimately fell through, Liverpool’s early admiration demonstrated their aptitude for identifying midfield targets.
