According to reports, Jurgen Klopp will rest Alexis Mac Allister for Liverpool’s League Cup match against AFC Bournemouth tonight.
The Liverpool Echo reports that Klopp will rest the 24-year-old midfielder tonight in an attempt to rotate his team against the Cherries, with Curtis Jones likely to start again.
Over the weekend, Liverpool defeated Nottingham Forest 3-0 with Mac Allister starting for the Reds. It was undoubtedly the Argentine international’s best game to date.
Emile Heskey called Mac Allister’s debut at Anfield “fantastic,” but the player has had a sluggish start to life since moving from Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer.
However, the £35 million midfield player is finally beginning to settle into life at Liverpool, as Mac Allister is now a main starter in Klopp’s starting lineup in the Premier League.
Although the Liverpool manager should have played more tonight, it makes sense to have Mac Allister fully healthy ahead of their trip to Luton Town.
Mac Allister has to be rested as much as possible by Liverpool.
With Liverpool anticipated to advance far in all four of their competitions this year, Klopp will need to hold onto vital players like Mac Allister.
And it’s a wise move for the Argentine to get some rest tonight, particularly because Liverpool has several important Premier League games this month.
The 24-year-old is now a vital member of the Reds’ midfield, so starting Jones and Harvey Elliott tonight and resting Mac Allister will be best for the younger players.
