Liverpool player ratings from Ian Doyle after the 2-1 win away to Bournemouth in the Carabao Cup

Liverpool defeated Bournemouth 2-1 on the road to advance to the next round of the Carabao Cup.

Later tonight, Jurgen Klopp’s team and Everton, their neighbours, will be drawn for the quarterfinals. Tonight, Arsenal was eliminated after Manchester City was already expelled.

The Reds had a well-earned lead at the half thanks to a goal from Cody Gakpo. But the home team equalised after a careless opening to the second half. But Darwin Nunez delivered a stunning blow to support his team’s advance. Ian Doyle ranked each player for Liverpool as follows:

Several efforts were fielded safely in slick conditions, and Tavernier made a nice save in the second half.

Joe Gomez 7

offered himself often down the right, forming strong connections with Salah and Szoboszlai, and produced a wonderful header that went over the line from a corner. After the break, though, there were some challenging moments.

Joel Matip 7

Defensively, there wasn’t much to do in the first half or around the opening goal. Another test in the second half as Bournemouth made benefit of the circumstances.

Jarell Quansah 9

Despite being obviously the target of the Bournemouth onslaught, he confidently brought the ball out of defence and stood his ground. Excellent performance.

Kostas Tsimikas 6

Unable to threaten as much going forward but set-piece delivery asked Bournemouth questions and prompted the first goal.

Wataru Endo 6

Looked to move the ball on a bit too readily at times first half, and improved once he settled. Subbed.

Harvey Elliott 7

Influenced the game heavily on the right of the midfield trio first half, buzzing with intent and shot led to the opener. Switched to right wing after break. Subbed.

Curtis Jones 8

Careful in looking after and using the ball during an impressive display. Was the Reds’ best player before being substituted.

Dominik Szoboszlai 6

Looked a little lost on the right flank initially but became a danger with his shooting, although less effective when moving back into his usual midfield role second half. Subbed.

Mohamed Salah 7

Although he wasn’t playing down the centre as much as he could have, the evening’s captain never stopped encouraging teammates to participate. Finish the second half with a header.

Cody Gakpo 7

Initially quiet on the left, he become more active as he drifted inside and scored the first goal for Liverpool. Reserved and replaced.

Darwin Nunez (for Elliott 61) 8

soon after entering the game, curled in an incredible attempt to give Liverpool the lead again. alive once more.

Alexis Mac Allister (for Jones 61) 7

Added some poise to Liverpool’s play following a chaotic display from Bournemouth and the inclement weather.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (for Endo 61) 7

posed a challenge for Bournemouth with his long passes, not the least of which led to Liverpool’s second goal.

Ryan Gravenberch (for Szoboszlai 76) 6
