With Dresser Winn serving as backup, Brett Rypien is anticipated to start while Matthew Stafford is recovering.

Dresser Winn, the quarterback for the Los Angeles Rams, is reportedly joining the team on Tuesday. The action follows the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ official rejection of Los Angeles’ attempts to re-sign John Wolford, the former backup to quarterbacks Jared Goff and Matthew Stafford, by adding him to their 53-man roster. In other words, Winn is essentially the backup plan to the backup plan, and the Rams are very likely on the verge of using the former undrafted free agent from UT-Martin in a game this season.

Before being released, Winn spent the preseason with the Rams as well.

With Stafford’s UCL thumb sprain, Sean McVay said the club is playing day to day. However, given the bye week, it would be unexpected to see Stafford start against the Packers on Sunday, especially since the head coach only mentioned IR a day ago.

Stetson Bennett was selected by the Rams in the fourth round of this year’s draft, but McVay says it’s unlikely that Bennett would play for the team.

In the event that Stafford is unable to play, Brett Rypien is expected to start against Green Bay, with Winn serving as the backup.
