THOUSAND Oaks, Calif. – Head coach Sean McVay announced on Friday that Lucas Havrisik will kick for the Rams in their Sunday game against the Cowboys in Dallas (10 a.m. PT, FOX).
McVay had stated on Wednesday that the team would assess Havrisik during practice this week before deciding on his next move at that position. On Wednesday, McVay said that the team had also practiced with several kickers.
“He’s done a good job,” McVay said during his press conference before Friday’s practice. “He did a nice job yesterday. A lot of the things that we talked about that (special teams coordinator) Chase (Blackburn) and Spring (assistant special teams coach Jeremy Springer) liked came to life, and it was good to be able to see him perform the way he did yesterday.”
That implies that Havrisik, who was a member of the practice squads for the Browns and Colts in the past, will kick off his first NFL regular season game on Sunday.
Havenstein’s calf injury will make him questionable.
Rob Havenstein, an offensive lineman for the Rams, appeared on the injury report on Thursday due to a calf injury. McVay stated on Friday that Havenstein will be considered questionable for Sunday’s game.
“Rob tweaked his calf the other day, so we’ll be smart with him as well,” McVay said.
When asked whether he thought Havenstein would play, McVay replied, “We’ll see.” In the event that Havenstein is unable to participate, the coaching staff will decide over the course of the next few days who will take over at right tackle, according to him.
