Darwin Nunez was once again the highlight of yesterday’s historic night for Uruguay.

Nunez entered yesterday night’s match against Brazil in superb form for both club and country and was full of confidence.

And that completely showed, according to the Uruguayan newspaper El Observador. The Liverpool striker, who assumed the responsibility of game-winning for his nation, reportedly cut a “determined” figure.

Darwin, who scored a beautiful, stooping header in the first half, is credited with the game’s best moment after reportedly coming out at ‘high speed’ for the second.

Nunez managed to spin between three Brazil players after receiving the ball almost immediately on the touchline by the six-yard box and lay on a superb assist for Nicolas De La Cruz.

El Obersvador refers to it as a “shocking” play, and it was definitely something. However, it is clear from the replay that Nunez’s attempt to trick Casemiro, Marquinhos, and Gabriel was extremely planned. Outrageous.

He received an 8/10 from the national press for his outstanding overall performance, which helped Uruguay defeat their loathed neighbours for the first time in 22 years.

Nunez maintains strong form.

If Nunez was already acting with confidence, this should definitely inspire him to step it up a notch.

This is the game that Uruguay really wants to win. The triumph on Tuesday will be cherished long into the night after such a long losing streak to Brazil.

And the No. 9 player for Liverpool was at the epicentre of it all.

It certainly is a joy to see Darwin now making so many people regret their previous statements after such a divisive beginning to his Reds career last year.

Of all, it’s still early in the season, and much work remains. However, you got the impression that the former Benfica player is ready to embark on a truly spectacular campaign.

Nunez had a choice to make after receiving Uruguay’s No. 9 jersey from the famous Luis Suarez. He either filled Suarez’s massive shoes or absolutely fell short of his predecessor.

Fortunately, it appears that the former has taken place. There’s a panther out there, Everton, so be careful.
