The New York Mets are continuing to bolster their outfield depth with this addition.

There is now more depth with the New York Mets.

The Mets announced on Friday that they had signed outfielder Taylor Kohlwey to a minor league contract, which included an invitation to spring training.

In the 21st round of the 2016 MLB Draft, Kohlwey was selected by the San Diego Padres. Before making his Major League Baseball debut in the 2023 season, he played in the minor leagues for seven seasons.

After spending just one week in the major leagues with the Padres, Kohlwey was returned to Triple-A after going 2 for 13 with five strikeouts.

In Triple-A last season, the 29-year-old slashed.276/.390/.437 with 12 home runs and 29 doubles, good for a.827 OPS. He has four straight minor league seasons with an OPS of.800 or higher. Kohlwey has a career Triple-A batting line of.296/.387/.444, a high walk rate, and a low strikeout rate.

Although Kohlwey is primarily a corner outfielder, he has experience playing first base and all three outfield positions.

Kohlwey is most likely going to be the Mets’ backup outfielder in 2024, spending the season at Triple-A Syracuse.
