There is a chance that one former Rangers player will soon join the Mets.
This offseason, the New York Mets have to improve their starting lineup.
Kodai Senga and Jose Quintana are currently slated for rotation spots for New York, but they will need to add a few players this offseason. With David Stearns taking over as president of baseball operations, the Mets have a lot of work ahead of them. Numerous free-agent starters are available, and New York appears to have been connected to each of them in one way or another.
According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, lefty Jordan Montgomery, a former member of the New York Yankees, St. Louis Cardinals, and Texas Rangers, is one player who would be the “perfect transaction” for the Mets this offseason.
“A bare-bones rotation — Kodai Senga and Jose Quintana are the only ones guaranteed spots at this point — and shaky bullpen calls for someone who eats innings,” Passan stated. “And that’s the kind of free agent well worth nine figures—someone who not only executes that skillfully but also demonstrates that he has what it takes to pitch in New York and win in the postseason. Signing left-hander Jordan Montgomery as a free agent is the ideal transaction.”
This offseason, Montgomery is going to be one of the most sought-after free agents. With the Cardinals and Rangers in 2023, the 30-year-old was outstanding. He started the season with the St. Louis Cardinals, but was traded to the Rangers before the deadline, where he helped the team win the World Series. Montgomery pitched 188 2/3 innings and had a 3.20 ERA at the end of the season, despite making 32 starts.
With an abundance of cash, New York may make a few big announcements in the off-season.
