The New England Patriots visit MetLife Stadium on Sunday afternoon to play the New York Giants in Week 12. With a week off, the Patriots have the advantage in terms of rest.
Still, nothing has changed at the quarterback position for the Patriots despite the additional time. Coach Bill Belichick has not yet announced who will start for the New York Jets on Sunday after benching Mac Jones during the team’s defeat to the Indianapolis Colts in Germany.
Whoever “earns it on the practice field”—Jones, Bailey Zappe, or Will Grier—will probably get the job, according to offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien.
With an average of just 14.1 points per game, the Patriots offense is ranked No. 31 in the NFL.
A bright spot in the recent Patriots slide has been running back Rhamondre Stevenson. After finishing with 87 yards in the defeat to Washington, the third-year player had a strong 88-yard performance against the Colts in Germany.
Tommy DeVito, the quarterback who led the Giants to an unexpected victory over the Washington Commanders in Week 11, is the target of the Patriots defense. In his first two starts since the common draft, DeVito is the first undrafted rookie quarterback to throw five touchdown passes.
With a 2-8 record, the Patriots have the worst record in the AFC and are last in the AFC East. A glimmer of hope: The Patriots would have the third overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft if the season ended today.
There are still unanswered concerns regarding coach Belichick’s job security. Belichick, as usual, paid little attention to those worries.
