Coach of the Philadelphia 76ers, Nick Nurse, stated on Wednesday that he accepts Kelly Oubre Jr.’s assertions that he was the victim of a hit-and-run incident, even though his account has been called into doubt.

“I just kind of was made aware that people were talking about that,” Nurse said. “I’m going to believe Kelly at his word and all that stuff.

After informing Nurse that police had informed her TV station there was no proof of a hit-and-run incident, the reporter questioned, “Do you have concerns if members of law enforcement … telling us that this is not in fact true, does that concern you as a coach?”

“It would if we get to that point,” Nurse said. “Listen, like I’ve said before, I’m going to believe Kelly at his word. … I don’t have any other conversations or anything right now to comment on.”

It was purportedly a hit-and-run when Oubre was struck by a car on Saturday night while strolling through Center City Philadelphia, as ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski first revealed. According to the original report, the swingman sustained multiple bruises, cuts, and broken ribs. It is anticipated that he will miss “significant time.”

The Philadelphia Inquirer, however, revealed on Wednesday that there is no video evidence that police could use to support Oubre’s account. It’s important to remember that Oubre is new to the city and only recently signed with the 76ers. In addition, TMZ Sports reports that he was still shaken up and “unsure of the exact location” when he spoke with police hours after the incident.

Additionally on Wednesday, TMZ purportedly captured Oubre returning home following the incident on doorbell footage.
