RAMS PLAYER TO WATCH: Quarterback Brett Rypien may start for Los Angeles for the first time in his career after Matthew Stafford injured his right thumb ligament against the Cowboys. This would be Rypien’s fourth career start. Despite throwing four touchdowns and eight interceptions in eight games over his three seasons with the Denver Broncos, Rypien was 2-1 overall. In his debut regular-season game with the Rams against Dallas, Rypien completed 5 of 10 passes for 42 yards.

PACKERS PLAYER TO WATCH: With Rasul Douglas traded to the Buffalo Bills, CB Carrington Valentine is expected to see a significant boost in playing time and a chance to establish himself as the starting quarterback. Due to Jaire Alexander’s injury, the rookie seventh-round selection from Kentucky has already made three starts this season.

ESSENTIAL MATCHUP: Puka Nacua and Cooper Kupp of the Rams versus the Packers secondary Although the starting quarterback for the Rams on Sunday is still up in the air, whoever gets the snaps could find receivers wide open for a large portion of the game. Even before Douglas was dealt, Green Bay’s secondary was going to have trouble matching up with these men. Alexander was voted to the All-Pro second team in the previous season, but he missed three games due to a back ailment this season, which has hindered his effectiveness. Nacua’s knee problem makes him doubtful for Sunday’s match.

KEY INJURIES: Stafford is doubtful for Sunday’s game because he did not practice all week. If healthy, Stafford could still play despite not being available for workouts this week, according to Rams coach Sean McVay. .. Lions LB Hunter Long, a tight end, and Ernest Jones, a knee injury, are out. DB Rams Shoulder, Cobie Durant, RT Along with Stafford and Nacua, Rob Havenstein (calf) and DT Larrell Murchison (knee) are also questionable. Rams back Kyren Williams is not available due to injury (ankle). Packers linebacker Quay Walker (groin) and safety Rudy Ford (calf) did not practice on Friday and are graded as doubtful. Eric Stokes, a tight end for the Packers, and Darnell Savage, a tight end, are both on injured reserve.

NOTES ON THE SERIES: The Packers have won five straight games at Lambeau Field, including the match from the previous season and a 32-18 triumph on January 16, 2021, in the NFC divisional playoffs. In the Rams’ 23-20 victory over Brett Favre in Green Bay in 2006, they had previously won… Coach Matt LaFleur of the Packers is 3-0 versus Coach Sean McVay of the Rams. In 2017, LaFleur served as the offensive coordinator for the Rams in head coach Sean McVay’s debut season. Additionally, LaFleur and McVay collaborated for four seasons as Mike Shanahan’s Washington staff assistants.

DATA AND STUFF: With 10 tackles for loss this season, Rams defensive end Aaron Donald is tied for second place in the NFL. For the tenth season running, Donald has made double digits of stops in the backfield. In 146 games throughout the regular season, he has 170 tackles for loss. .. With 752 receiving yards, wide receiver Puka Nacua leads all rookies; second-place Minnesota Vikings player Jordan Addison (482 yards) is well behind. On his own, Nacua’s 314 yards after the catch would place him sixth among rookies. .. After allowing just four passing touchdowns in their previous seven games, the Rams gave up four to Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott on Sunday. Although Los Angeles made major changes to its defensive line this summer, the new OLB duo of rookie Byron Young (three sacks) and Michael Hoecht (3 1/2 sacks) has been successful in rush passing the passer. .. Lions OC Matt LaFleur, the coach of the Packers, has a younger brother named Mike. The Packers have dropped their last four games. In the first half of their last five games, the Packers have been outscored 73-9 and have not scored a touchdown in the first half of any of them. Their last first-half touchdown was in a 25-24 loss to Atlanta on September 17. NFL Packers OLB In his last three games, Preston Smith has accumulated four sacks. Packer DL In four meetings with the Rams, including the postseason, Kenny Clark has racked up four and a half sacks. .. Packer DL Last week, T.J. Slaton recorded career highs in tackles (nine), tackles for loss (two), and solo tackles (four). Since Ryan Pickett accomplished it against Detroit on December 12, 2010, he was the first defensive lineman for the Packers to have at least nine total tackles and two tackles for loss in the same game.

FANTASY TIP: Fantasy owners who are in dire need of assistance at running back should investigate if Los Angeles’ Darrell Henderson is still available in their leagues. With Kyren Williams on injured reserve, the Rams added Henderson to their active roster this week as they continue to look for alternatives. Henderson has a history of success with 1,834 yards gained through rushes, so he might get some opportunities against a Packers team that struggles at times to stop the run, even though Green Bay did hold Minnesota to 62 yards on 31 carries last week. Which Rams backfield player—Henderson or Royce Freeman—ends up with the heavier workload is the question.
