Liverpool is taking into account a potential youth candidate as a possible replacement for the ailing Andy Robertson.

Robertson’s injured shoulder will keep him out for about three months. The Reds are therefore looking for options to cover all bases.

The obvious backup, Kostas Tsimikas, started the victory over Everton on Saturday. But The Athletic reports that Jurgen Klopp is considering other players for different competitions as games continue to come thick and fast.

They assert that 18-year-old Calum Scanlon is also ‘being considered,’ even though Tsimikas appears destined to fill in for a starter in the Premier League.

Scanlon’s chance for minutes is claimed to have “increased” with four Europa League games and at least one Carabao Cup encounter yet to play before the end of the year.

Since joining from Birmingham City in 2020, the left-back, who can also play further forward, has reportedly pleased staff with his “polite and respectful manner.”

He has gained a lot of supporters on the pitch as well. Scanlon is referred to as a “modern full-back,” and it is asserted that he excels “in the attacking side of the game.” That seems good to us.

Chances for Scanlon improve

Liverpool hasn’t frequently had to play many games without their great left-back.

As a result, Reds supporters rarely have the opportunity to see what the academy has been developing at the position.

But now that Robertson is expected to miss a significant number of games, they might be about to.

And it appears that what the academy has been cooking up could be something exceptional. Luke Chambers is another player who appears to be under consideration, and with both Scanlon and him, Liverpool appears to have two solid choices.

Chambers’ senior experience working on loan might be the difference-maker in this situation. But the 19-year-old lost the chance to dazzle Klopp this summer since he was hurt during the most recent preseason.

While he was away, Scanlon filled in and did a great job.

One of these two is probably going to make their complete debut tomorrow since they both have Europa League games against Toulouse the following day. Exciting times for Chambers and Scanlon, for whom doors may soon be flying open.
