Liverpool supporters might not have been able to see their own team compete Friday night in the Champions League, but they might have been keeping an eye on one man who is presently closely associated with the Reds.
According to Football Insider, there have been rumours in recent days that Jamal Musiala’s potential transfer to Anfield is being investigated. Musiala is known as a “superstar in the making,” a description he would have emphasised on Tuesday.
The 20-year-old sealed Bayern Munich’s victory over Galatasaray by completing the scoring in their 3-1 victory, which gives them an early entry into the round of 16. However, the youthful midfielder made an impression in other ways as well.
According to Sofascore, the young player was exceptionally efficient with the ball, completing 31 of his 34 passes (91%), and finishing the game with three successful dribbles, two critical passes, one “big chance,” and two of his three long balls finding a teammate.
Musiala contributed to the effort even when Thomas Tuchel’s team was not in possession of the ball, winning five duels, making one tackle, and intercepting a pass in Istanbul. Michael Owen praised Musiala for his “exceptional” performance on TNT Sports.
Performances like these are probably going to jolt Jorg Schmadtke and company into stepping up their efforts to court the 25-cap Germany international to Anfield if Liverpool are serious about attempting to bring him to Anfield.
The goal of the January transfer window is to bring in a top-tier defensive midfielder, which explains the continued interest in players like Andre Trindade, as well as perhaps a versatile defender.
Bayern’s playmaking jewel may therefore become less of a priority, but the Reds’ recruitment team would have been quite pleased with what they saw of him last night.
