Former Liverpool player Nuri Sahin asserted that he is incorporating Jurgen Klopp’s management strategies into his own career.
Sahin, who took over at Turkish Super Lig team Antalyaspor two years ago, is starting his journey as a head coach.
The 35-year-old has had a rocky couple of years. Sahin coached Antalyaspor to 13th place past season after leading his group to 7th in 2021–2022. They are once again in that position after the first eight games of the new season.
Sahin will gain valuable experience regardless, though. The former Borussia Dortmund player was questioned by Flashscore about his tenure as a coach thus far and whether his style is “more Klopp than anyone else.”
“I strive to be who I am. I just started this job,” he responds. “Even though I’ve only been in there for a few dozen months, it seems like I’ve been there for decades! I want to develop my own football theories, but I am still influenced by what my coaches taught me.
“I make an effort to integrate different elements, but I always try to be true to who I am. Even though I’m talking to you right now, I have no idea what goes on inside your head. You also cannot enter my. The same is true with coaching. I do enjoy a particular brand of football, but I prefer to play my own brand of the sport.
“At Dortmund, I also played for Thomas Tuchel. I don’t like to imitate; I have my own thoughts. Although I also enjoy Tuchel’s approach, I believe Klopp is the ideal combination for me.”
Jurgen motivates younger generations
It wouldn’t come as a surprise if Sahin succeeded as a manager. He played for elite clubs under elite coaches and was an exceptionally polished and intelligent player.
There are some similarities between him and another former Reds midfielder, current month’s most popular player Xabi Alonso.
However, Sahin’s management career has gotten off to a much more steady start than Alonso and his Leverkusen team.
However, it’s still early on. Sahin still has plenty of time to polish his abilities despite being seven years Alonso’s junior.
And who could be a greater tutor to him than Klopp? Alonso may have played for a variety of fantastic managers, but he never met the Reds manager.
While doing so doesn’t guarantee Sahin’s success, it does indicate that he has a very perceptive ear that he may shape whichever he pleases.
Numerous players have undoubtedly been motivated to enter management by Jurgen throughout the years. We ponder which current and former Reds stars will follow Sahin’s lead.
