If Mo Salah leaves Liverpool in the next summer, John Aldridge has urged the club to find a replacement that is as similar to him as possible.
Although he emphasised the necessity for an immediate impact player at the height of their abilities, the 65-year-old did mention teenage phenom Ben Doak as a potential candidate for the long term.
“If Salah leaves, which is likely given his contract status and other factors, Liverpool will need to find the finest right-sided player who can score at least 20 goals every season while also setting up goals for others. The former Red wrote in his Echo column that you had to go get them.
“Young Ben Doak has years left and has the potential to be one for the future, but it has to be someone who is in the prime of their career at 26 or 27, who has already been there and done it.”
The former Roma striker has been in outstanding form for the Reds so far this season, contributing to 10 goals in as many matches between the English Premier League and Europa League.
What steps should you take to replace Mo Salah?
You most likely don’t, is the short and sweet response.
When it comes to addressing either the creative or goalscoring void in the frontline, Aldridge is, in our opinion, onto something.
While we wouldn’t argue that his recommendation of former Manchester City winger Leroy Sane is a bad one, we’d say that we could be better off searching the market for a creative monster or a younger player who could eventually emulate Salah’s attributes.
Maybe of the closest conceivable moulds to the Egyptian King when he first made the transition away from the Serie A, around the age of 25.
