Victor Osimhen, a striker for Napoli who is slated to leave in the summer, is apparently a target for Liverpool.
The Reds are keeping an eye on the Nigerian international while Osimhen’s future with Napoli is still being closely scrutinised, according to writer Valter De Maggio.
The current Serie A Golden Boot winner and manager Rudi Garcia had a public argument earlier this season, which stoked rumours that Osimhen would be moving on in 2024.
And despite having probably the finest offence of any elite team in Europe, Liverpool are suddenly interested in signing the former LOSC Lille star.
Regarding Liverpool’s enthusiasm for the star Napoli player, De Maggio stated: “Victor Osimhen is receiving significant, strong interest from Liverpool.
“Understanding whether the Reds will put pressure on Osimhen’s agent to not renew his contract will be crucial.”
On paper, Osimhen to Liverpool doesn’t make much sense.
It makes logical that Liverpool would be interested in Osimhen, who CNN has praised as one of the top players “in the world.” However, when you stand back from the situation, other issues start to become apparent.
As we all know, Liverpool has a fantastic group of strikers, including Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota, and Cody Gakpo, who are all capable of setting the tempo.
Moreover, despite Osimhen’s talent, Jurgen Klopp’s team would be foolish to sign him given the more obvious defensive weakness they have in 2024.
