According to reports, Bayern Munich has contacted Manchester City about signing Kalvin Phillips, who is thought to be a target for Liverpool.
According to 90min, Thomas Tuchel’s team has made an approach for the England international, who has made just two Premier League starts for Pep Guardiola since joining City last year in a £45m move.
Liverpool is reportedly interested in signing Phillips from the reigning English champions after his tenure with Manchester United has been nothing short of a nightmare.
Bayern, who are putting a lot of pressure on Phillips to join with them before the January transfer window, could possibly edge over the Reds for the services of the former Leeds United star.
In fact, the City midfielder will need to be playing regularly next year if he wants to have any chance of joining Gareth Southgate’s selection for Euro 2024.
And Liverpool can give the 27-year-old exactly that, however Bayern’s interest in the club might be a major problem for the Anfield giants in 2024.
In January, Liverpool must defeat Bayern to secure Phillips.
Phillips’ career is at a crossroads because the midfielder isn’t getting much of a chance at City and is obviously too talented to spend the rest of the season sitting on Guardiola’s bench.
The knowledge that Bayern Munich is in negotiations with the England international should spur the Merseyside giants to make a play for Phillips.
The Reds, as we all know, could use another defensive-minded midfielder, and Phillips is the ideal choice for Jurgen Klopp to fill this position.
