A £50 million bid for a Brighton attacker has already been “laughed off,” but according to one observer, Liverpool or Manchester United are the attacker’s “dream” destinations.

Currently, the rest of the Premier League may look up to Brighton’s recruitment department. The Seagulls have a track record of recruiting up-and-coming young stars who go on to become well-known figures, and they very rarely make mistakes in the market.

Currently, Brighton makes up half of the British transfer record. When Moises Caicedo signed with Chelsea for £115 million in the summer, he broke the previous record held by Enzo Fernandez (£106.7 million).

However, a number of reports, including one from the Daily Express, have exaggerated the notion that Evan Ferguson’s departure from the club could result in Caicedo’s record being surpassed.

The 18-year-old Republic of Ireland international is already a formidable force at center-forward.

For Brighton, Ferguson has scored 14 goals in 36 games. While that might not seem particularly impressive, it’s crucial to remember that he is only a youngster and has regularly played off the bench.

Numerous English powerhouses, including Tottenham, Arsenal, Manchester United, and Liverpool, are rumoured to be interested in signing Ferguson.

In fact, ESPN recently reported that before Man Utd acquired Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta, a bewilderingly cheap price of £50 million was ‘laughed off’.

Ferguson previously told the Athletic that he had multiple trials with Liverpool.

When departing Irish club Bohemians in 2021, Ferguson said why he chose Brighton over Liverpool: “I went to Liverpool a couple times. Although it’s a good club, there are a lot of youngsters there who are just dying away since they have no hope of making the first team.

“Do I just want to play two years of under-18s, then move up to the 23s, and go from there to where?” I pondered.

Ferguson, though, has since shown he is more than capable of making a significant impact in the English Premier League, so a move to Liverpool is unlikely to result in him languishing in the bench.

Ferguson likely to say yes if Manchester United and Liverpool approach?

Richard Dunne, a former Ireland international, has now supported his countryman to land a “dream” transfer.

The former Manchester City centre back thinks Ferguson would fit in perfectly at Old Trafford or Anfield. However, it is uncertain when that might occur.

According to Dunne (as stated by the Mirror), “I’m sure Evan Ferguson would be delighted at the thought of playing for Liverpool and Manchester United as most Irish boys would dream of that.”

“I hope that will happen for him in the future, but at Brighton right now, he’s still learning his craft.

“He plays in some games while taking a break from others, and he is still improving as a player. When he decides the time is appropriate, I have no doubt Brighton will assist him in moving on.

“When he does, he will have his pick of all the elite clubs. Young players with his level of versatility are uncommon. I believe that for him right now, it’s too soon, but it won’t be long until it’s time to move on.”
