Due to a clause in his contract with Bayern Munich that gives him the opportunity to return, Liverpool may be able to sign Xabi Alonso next summer.
The former Liverpool manager Xabi Alonso is free to take over the club at Anfield next summer.
The current Bundesliga club where the Basque manager has had success is Bayer Leverkusen. In Julian Nagelsmann’s first international break as Germany manager, Leverkusen are in first place, and Alonso has garnered praise for his incisive and high-energy brand of play.
Reds supporters are already satisfied with the 2005 Champions League winner, and they may one day get their wish for him to succeed Jurgen Klopp.
According to SportBILD, Alonso has a clause in his contract that allows him to leave Leverkusen and join any of his three top European teams until 2026.
The obvious one is Liverpool, where the World Cup winner played midfield with Steven Gerrard for five productive years. The other two are Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.
Under Carlo Ancelotti’s guidance, Alonso went on to win a second European championship with Los Blancos during his time at the Bernabeu. Now, should the great manager decide to leave the 14-time Champions League winners next summer, he might take the Italian’s position in the hot seat.
Bayern, who are behind Die Werkself at the top of the league early in the season, might also resort to their own former midfield metronome, who was signed by the team and played at center-back.
Jurgen Klopp’s contract with the club in Merseyside is set to expire in 2025, but according to Football Transfers, the German will weigh his alternatives at the end of the current campaign.
The duration of Nagelsmann’s contract with the German national team is limited, and Klopp is rumoured to be interested in taking over the position once he departs Anfield.
