According to a source, a key Liverpool player is preparing to move to Barcelona in the upcoming summer.
As Jurgen Klopp continues his ambitious rebuilding at Anfield, Liverpool could lose another prominent talent to European rivals Barcelona.
The Reds had a busy summer, adding four new midfielders while also offloading some of their most important players. Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, Roberto Firmino, and Naby Keita all transferred to Saudi Arabia, while James Milner went to Brighton and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain relocated to Turkey. Naby Keita returned to the Bundesliga.
Despite bringing on Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo, and Ryan Gravenberch, it’s possible that yet another key player will depart.
Approximately 11 years after leaving Barcelona, Thiago Alcantara is planning a trip back to Catalonia for next summer, according to ESPN.
When the Spain international, who was born in Italy, transferred from the Camp Nou to Bayern Munich in 2013, he became the first player to represent Pep Guardiola at two different teams. In 2020, coming off of winning a historic Triple under Hansi Flick, he moved from Bavaria to Merseyside.
Thiago has played a crucial role in Liverpool’s stylistic evolution under Klopp. The midfield metronome has assisted in the Reds’ transition away from the “heavy metal” gegenpress that the German earned his name with in his early years to a possession-based philosophy at Anfield.
However, Thiago has played so little recently due to injuries that he will be a free agent next summer. Beginning in January, he can freely sign pre-agreements with European parties.
Thiago, at 32, only made 18 Premier League appearances for Liverpool last season, and he hasn’t done so yet this one.
Thiago’s price on Transfermarkt is €12 million.
