The cult hero of Tottenham Hotspur, Jan Vertonghen, responded on social media when Jurgen Klopp, the manager of Liverpool, requested a repeat of the match between Spurs and Liverpool.

The Spurs Web released a warning regarding the significant precedent a replay would make, and the defensive stalwart of the Spurs responded on X.

The Tottenham fan page remarked, “See you in Madrid, Jurgen,” to which Vertonghen responded, “Count me in!”

The current problem facing VAR in England may be the worst one the system has faced since going into effect.

At the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday, the Reds suffered a 2-1 defeat despite having a goal by Luis Diaz wrongfully overturned for offside.

VAR On Saturday, the decision was made with the scores still tied at 0-0, and Darren England and his deputy Dan Cook did not overturn it.

The audio of the debates between the match officials over offside was made public on Monday by PGMOL.

As soon as England sees there has been an error, he can be heard declaring the tick is “perfect” before cursing.

A replay, in Klopp’s opinion,” is the proper course of action because something similar to this has never occurred,” according to BBC Sport.

“The audio made no difference at all. It is a blatant error. There ought to be remedies for that. Replay should be the result. But it won’t probably happen.

“That opens the gates, which is an argument against it. It is unheard of. I frequently make bad choices, but something like this has never occurred.”

In TBR opinion

In all honesty, this was a mistake that never ought to have occurred. But as it stands, anything transpires will be quite interesting.

If the game isn’t replayed, Liverpool may feel extremely wronged.

It will then reappear, perhaps at the conclusion of the season when 1-3 points are all that stand between the Reds and a significant outcome.

The rulebook would need to be entirely revised if there were to be a replay because it would create a very dangerous precedent.

Times are interesting.
