For many years to come, Jurgen Klopp might benefit from Liverpool’s newest hero.

Following Dominik Szoboszlai’s strong start at Anfield, Jurgen Klopp may finally have the next Steven Gerrard in his ranks at Liverpool. The 22-year-old has distinguished himself during his brief stay on Merseyside so far, and he is already being praised as an essential component of the Reds’ machinery.

Szoboszlai adapted to Liverpool’s midfield swiftly, and it took him little time to become a sure starter. Having scored twice in his last four outings for the Reds across all competitions, he is currently on a strong run of form.

On Wednesday against Leicester City, the Hungarian playmaker scored a goal with a stunning effort that found the top corner from a distance after making a flawless connection with the ball. It was Szoboszlai’s most recent display of brilliance for his new team, who will undoubtedly benefit from his presence in midfield for many years to come.

Many comparisons to Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard have already been drawn. Gerrard was renowned for his no-nonsense performances in the engine room as well as his potent long-range shooting prowess. Since Gerrard started to deteriorate in the early 2010s, the Reds have had a number of quality midfielders, but none have come close to matching his unparalleled effect at the club he is practically synonymous with.

Szoboszlai appears to have a great chance of becoming Liverpool’s next star in the midfield, though, if he continues to take charge on a regular basis. In addition to picking the No. 8 jersey upon his debut at Anfield as a sign of respect to his predecessor, he has previously revealed that he has a tattoo that was inspired by Gerrard’s words.

After moving from RB Leipzig to Liverpool earlier this year, Szoboszlai said,  “Of course it’s a great number, a lot of great players had this number.”And also I have a tattoo from Steven Gerrard, what he said, I don’t even remember when but before. It was also a reason why.

“When I was a child, to be honest I didn’t watch that much football but of course when it was Champions League or a big game, I was watching Liverpool, the big teams and also the big players and he was one of the biggest.”

Szoboszlai hasn’t played in many games for Liverpool yet and still has a ways to go before catching Gerrard’s record of 709 games played across all competitions. But if Liverpool’s newest hero can stay in top form for the duration of his stay on Merseyside, it looks as though the sky will be the limit for him.
