Despite news that the Saudi Pro League is planning to hire the best referees from the Premier League, all Liverpool supporters are saying the same thing.
This summer, the Saudi Pro League gained notoriety for signing some of football’s top players, including Neymar, Karim Benzema, Jordan Henderson, and Ruben Neves.
Additionally, lucrative contracts have attracted a number of managers to the league, including Steven Gerrard of Al-Ettifaq and Nuno Espirito Santo of Al-Ittihad.
Additionally, according to the Times, referees from the Premier League are being contacted about possible jobs in Saudi Arabia. Currently, the Pro League reserves its usage of foreign referees for special games.
But it’s now believed that the expanding division is giving season-long contracts for top officials, a move that would worry European leagues.
The top Premier League referee can make between £120,000 and £300,000 per year, while the Saudi league has the financial capacity to pay significantly more.
All Liverpool supporters are humorously requesting that Anthony Taylor and Paul Tierney transfer to the Saudi Pro League in response to the Times’ claim.
On the social media website X, formerly known as Twitter, one Reds fan wrote:
“Hand on heart, the best referees in the country are Anthony Taylor and Paul Tierney.”
Another said:
“You can have all our referees for free.”
A third wrote in a similar vein:
“Take Paul Tierney and Anthony Taylor for free.”
A fourth Liverpool fan stated:
“In that case…Anthony Taylor and Paul Tierney are the best in England by a mile…”
