Alexis Mac Allister, a midfielder for Liverpool, was recently asked to rank a number of football players, including Paul Scholes, Steven Gerrard, and Frank Lampard, among others, in an interview with GOAL (h/t Madrid Zone).

The newly acquired Liverpool player was asked to rank Kevin De Bruyne, Luka Modric, and Andres Iniesta in a similar scenario.

Luka Modric is placed last.

Iniesta was chosen by Mac Allister ahead of De Bruyne and Modric, suggesting that he favors the former Barcelona player over the other two.

One can hardly blame the Liverpool sensation because Iniesta, one of the best midfielders of the twenty-first century, decorated himself with championships while playing for Barça.

However, it was unexpected when Mac Allister chose Modric as his last candidate, barely behind De Bruyne.

While there is no denying that De Bruyne has established himself as one of the best playmakers in the Premier League era, Modric has a much longer career span.

Superior to all else

Given that the two players have quite different strengths and the Belgian is much more attack-oriented, it may not be fair to directly compare Modric and De Bruyne.

Modric has nearly 500 competitive matches for Real Madrid and has been playing at the highest level of football for a decade and a half.

Modric, who is 38 years old, is still an important member of Real Madrid’s midfield.

To put things in perspective, Iniesta quit playing football in Europe at the age of merely 34 and is now a 39-year-old professional in the United Arab Emirates.

However, one can excuse Mac Allister for selecting both the legendary Barcelona player and the superstar of Manchester City, given both players are exceptional and, like Modric, have made significant contributions to European football over the years.
