In addition to mentioning a Liverpool player who had a “super game” against LASK, Jurgen Klopp also mentioned a player who he wishes had been handed the ball “a little bit more often.”
After Klopp made 11 changes to his starting lineup, the Reds fell down, but goals from Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz, and Mohamed Salah in the second half helped the Reds win 3-1 with ease.
When asked about the newcomers to the starting lineup, Klopp singled out newcomer Ryan Gravenberch for special praise and expressed disappointment that academy product Ben Doak wasn’t given more opportunities to make a mark.
“Ben Doak would have likely received the ball more frequently on the touchline and sent it inside or in another manner if we had played him more frequently,” according to Klopp.
“Stefan [Bajcetic] eventually entered the game after a challenging beginning, but we clearly troubled him with the timing of our passes.
“Ryan [Gravenberch] played a fantastic game under incredibly trying conditions and was really pivotal for us.
“I believe Ibou [Konate] might receive 80 minutes, while Stefan might receive minutes. Therefore, there were a ton of advantages, and I am cheeky enough to be really pleased with that game.”
Those who anticipate Liverpool to “fly through” the Europa League will be let down, according to Klopp.
“I know how the world works, and I know that people are counting on us to win this competition,” he continued. It won’t take place, Following Liverpool’s victory, Klopp commented.
“Neither during the group stage nor during the knockout stage will it occur. It won’t take place.
“We needed to investigate it, so we did. The opponent felt the effects of the pitch far more than we did, which is somewhat expected given that we got the ball more frequently tonight. It was a huge learning curve for both teams. Apart from that, we had to adjust to it. such that there is much to learn”.
