According to Dietmar Hamann, Liverpool will find it difficult to stay up with Manchester City in the race for the championship, but one player might make all the difference.

Liverpool has had a strong start to the new season after a poor campaign that saw them miss out on the Champions League. The Reds appear to be returning to their best under Jurgen Klopp with four victories in their first five Premier League games, including a late victory against Wolves that temporarily put them at the top of the table.

Hamann is sure that Darwin Nunez has the potential to develop into a match-winning, game-changing player for Klopp this season despite his concerns about Liverpool’s chances of winning the title. The Uruguayan attacker scored two goals in injury time as Liverpool defeated Newcastle last month.

Hamann stated, “I’d have to rule out a serious title bid,” according to NeueOnlineCasinos (via the Liverpool ECHO). Although anything can happen at any time, I’d like to see more from this Liverpool team.

“Things might appear to be going well on paper, but Liverpool’s problems largely stem from their inability to dismantle opponents. Liverpool has a history of struggling at Anfield when opponents put 10 players behind the ball.

“I believe Nunez can help here; just look at what he accomplished at Newcastle. Although Liverpool has several choices, I believe this season may be his. But overall, I’d say Liverpool aren’t a serious contender. City continue to be the standard.”

In the upcoming weeks, Liverpool will have the chance to disprove Hamann and other skeptics’ claims about their title credentials. The Reds travel to Tottenham and Brighton before hosting a very assured Michail Antonio and West Ham, with cup matches sandwiched in between the league games.
