For Celtic tonight against Feyenoord in their UEFA Champions League group stages debut, Nat Phillips’ health is a concern. At a press conference held yesterday afternoon, Brendan Rodgers revealed that Phillips will be questionable for the match in Rotterdam.
The loanee from Liverpool rolled his ankle during the opening 45 minutes of the weekend match against Dundee, and while initially it was thought that Rodgers was just being cautious by sending him out, it now appears that he may have done something worse than it originally seemed. If he doesn’t make it, that leaves us severely short once more and truly approaches the impossibility in light of our defensive situation.
Nat recently played for Celtic for the first time, but it was clear he was a little rusty given how long it had been since he had last played for Liverpool. If he’s already injured, it would be a sad setback since we could really use a player of his experience in the De Kuip stadium tomorrow night. That rustiness will only go away with games.
The 50-year-old responded, “Nat has rolled his ankle so we will just have to see on that,” when questioned about the current condition of play with Nat and other injury worries. Other than that, the boys are fine and improving their level of fitness. Other than that, they are fine.
