Outside of Crypto.com Arena, the Lakers unveiled a new statue of Kobe Bryant last month. The statue is full with references to Kobe’s career and symbolism (for instance, he’s standing atop a triangle, which stands in for Phil Jackson and the triangle offense Kobe used to play when he was at the height of his game). It also contains his 81-point game’s box score.
It was rife with mistakes as well. The name Von Wafer is spelled “Vom Wafer,” Jose Calderon is spelled “Jose Calderson,” and the phrase DNP – Coach’s Decision is spelled “DNP – Coach’s Decicion.”
The Lakers are trying to fix the issue, according to Jovan Buha of The Athletic.
A representative for the team informed The Athletic, “We have been aware of this for a few weeks and are already working to get it corrected soon.”
File this under “measure twice, cut once.”
The statue is still a worthy and enduring memorial to one of the most significant and well-liked Laker players in franchise history, Kobe. All that’s needed is some tidying up.
