Catcher Travis d’Arnaud of the Atlanta Braves recently took a swing at the New York Mets in response to an intriguing question.
There is a rivalry between the New York Mets and Atlanta Braves. Thus, it should come as no surprise that Braves catcher Travis d’Arnaud gave the following response when asked which team makes him the angrier when he plays against them: Braves.
Following a long silence, D’Arnaud said, “New York Mets,” to a round of applause from the Braves supporters present.
Braves-Mets rivalry
In recent years, the Braves have dominated the rivalry. In fact, Atlanta had the best record in baseball in 2023, and the Mets failed to make it to the postseason at all. They didn’t win the championship, but they did win the World Series in 2021.
In 2024, the Braves are primed to mount another strong run. One of baseball’s best players, Ronald Acuna Jr., just finished his MVP ’23 season. Max Fried is starting his contract season, so it wouldn’t be shocking if he were to win the NL Cy Young Award.
After signing stars last offseason, the Mets have made a flurry of smaller moves this offseason. With more depth surrounding their stars, New York might be able to compete with Atlanta in the AL East.
The Braves, though, will undoubtedly continue to be the favorite. They may have the most evenly matched roster in MLB. In addition to being the favorite in the AL East, Atlanta is also a strong contender to win the World Series.
Still, the AL East will be a fascinating division to watch. While the Miami Marlins made an unexpected run for the playoffs in 2023, the Philadelphia Phillies are another talented team.
