With a 4-3 victory over the Detroit Red Wings at Little Caesars Arena tonight, Anaheim wrapped up a four-game road trip with its second win in as many nights. Ten different Ducks found the scorebook.
Anaheim concluded the road trip with a 2-2-0 record after the victory, raising their season total to 12-19-0. The Ducks take on Calgary on Thursday to start an eight-game homestand.
With a goal and an assist apiece, Adam Henrique and Troy Terry led the Ducks’ offensive efforts. Together, the two scored 11 points in Anaheim’s consecutive victories. Pavel Mintyukov and Radko Gudas both added goals. With 29 of the 32 shots he faced from Detroit, goalie Lukas Dostal earned the victory.
For the Red Wings, who dropped their third straight game and their sixth in their previous seven (1-5-1), Alex DeBrincat scored twice. Additionally, Jeff Petry scored. Detroit’s Ville Husso began the game in goal, but he was forced to leave due to a lower-body injury during the first period. In relief, James Reimer made 12 saves.
After 20 minutes, the Ducks led 3-0 thanks to goals late in the first period, which was all Anaheim.
Just over two minutes after the puck dropped, Gudas opened the score by receiving a pass from Leason in the far corner and shooting high from the slot past Husso’s glove.
With just 29 games played, Gudas’ five goals this season tie his 12-year career high.
Leason tied his career high in scoring (4-5=9) with the main assist and has now scored points in three of his last four games.
Six minutes later, Mintyukov doubled the lead with his second NHL goal, another high shot from the top of the circles that went through traffic and over Husso’s shoulder.
With the goal, Mintyukov rose to the top of the defenseman scoring standings and into a tie for second place among all NHL rookies (2-15=17). The 20-year-old leads the Ducks blueliners in points this season and has scored four goals in his last four games.
With an assist on the goal, Carlsson now shares ninth place in the scoring standings among NHL rookies. In terms of points scored per game, he is third.
Henrique’s power-play goal, a skillful deflection of Fowler’s low point shot at the hashmarks, completed Anaheim’s commanding first period.
Henrique has now found the scoresheet in four of his last five games (4-3=7), and he has two points just twenty-four hours after recording his first career NHL hat trick against his former team.
Along with Teemu Selanne, Paul Kariya, and Vinny Prospal, Henrique became the fourth Duck in franchise history to score four goals in a two-day period with this goal.
With his assist, Strome and Mintyukov are now tied for the team lead for this season.
In the middle frame, Terry stopped the Anaheim assault early, giving the Ducks a brief 4-0 lead over a failed Detroit clear. Killorn quickly saw Terry alone in front and knocked the puck down just inside the line, setting up Terry for a forehand move that he tucked under Reimer.
Terry recorded back-to-back multi-point games for the fourth time in his NHL career that evening thanks to a goal and an assist.
As the Anaheim goalie attempted to fight through a screen, Petry put Detroit on the board during the following shift with a slapshot past Dostal high to the short side.
In the third, DeBrincat pulled Detroit within one goal thanks to back-to-back power-play goals. Detroit was awarded five penalties against Anaheim in the last minute of regulation.
The first was a cross-seam pass from Kane, his former Chicago linemate. With 2:28 remaining, the second one-timer beat Dostal to the glove side, bringing the score to 4-3.
DeBrincat is tied for 13th in the NHL in goals this season.
Kane scored his third and fourth points as a Red Wing that evening with his two assists.
Dostal had the best opportunity to score in the 60th minute of play when he attempted to shoot for the empty net at the other end of the rink, but his shot missed the right post by an inch.
The Ducks take on Calgary on Thursday to start an eight-game homestand.
