Drew Lock and Jaxon Smith-Njigba’s clutch plays helped the Seattle Seahawks pull off a surprising upset over the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night at home.

Smith-Njigba and Lock combined to score the game-winning touchdown, which gave the Seahawks a 20-17 victory.

In spite of the absence of starting quarterback Geno Smith, Pete Carroll of the Seahawks recorded another victory over the Eagles. According to Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team, it’s something that Seattle supporters are accustomed to:

“#Seahawks HC Pete Carroll is now 8-0 in his coaching career against the #Eagles.”

Carroll has never lost to the Eagles, that’s correct.

With less than a minute remaining in the fourth quarter and the Seahawks trailing the Eagles by four points on a third-and-10 play, Lock threw a prayer to rookie wideout Smith-Njigba, who then secured the ball as he charged into the end zone to put Seattle ahead. This put the incredible streak in jeopardy on Monday night.

When the Eagles had the ball back and had a chance to win the game, Julian Love, a safety for the Seahawks, intercepted a pass intended for A.J. Brown by Jalen Hurts.

With four catches and four targets, Smith-Njigba ended the game with 48 receiving yards and a score, while Lock—who started in place of the injured Geno Smith—went 22/33 for 208 passing yards with no interceptions.

The Seahawks’ prospects of qualifying for the playoffs were greatly increased with the victory. With a road game against the Tennessee Titans looming in Week 16, the squad climbed to 7-7.
