The Seattle Seahawks have promoted quarterback Sean Mannion and safety Ty Okada from the practice squad ahead of their Monday night game at Lumen Field against the Philadelphia Eagles.

With a groin injury, Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith is doubtful. With Mannion called up just hours before kickoff, it seemed for a while that Smith’s status was even more uncertain. But …

Breaking news: both Geno and injured Philadelphia quarterback Jalen Hurts are back in action.

Mannion was also given more credit by the Seahawks before their Week 14 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. Mannion was moved up to backup position behind Drew Lock when Smith was declared inactive prior to kickoff.

The Seahawks and head coach Pete Carroll have demonstrated their confidence in Lock’s ability to contribute if he is forced to play. In his first start as a Seahawk, the 49ers game saw him display impressive flashes.

“He’s had games in the past, but it’s been a while,” Carroll said. “To come back, I don’t know how he would’ve been more prepared mentally to take this challenge on just judging by how he responded, how he handled it, how he communicated, how he handled the huddle and all of the calls and the situations, and the adjustments on the sidelines and halftime. He was a real pro about it. That’s a great sign, and he’s been preparing for this, and he came through in that regard. It’s a good moment for him and it is very valuable for him. I saw him a couple of times take the big breath, kind of the sigh, and okay, ‘Here we go.’ He was ready. I was proud of him.”

But … this is better.
