Goalie Calle Clang of the Anaheim Ducks has been recalled from the San Diego Gulls of the American Hockey League.

This comes after netminder John Gibson was transferred to the Non-Roster to take care of his child’s birth.

After appearing in five games the previous season, the 21-year-old Clang is in his second season with San Diego. The Olofström, Sweden native has struggled through 12 games this season, recording a 3.76 goals-against average, 2-7-2 record, and.882 save percentage. Nevertheless, this season has been full of learning opportunities. Even though Clang’s professional career in North America has started slowly, he is still a promising young player in the Ducks organization.

He was originally a third-round pick of the Pittsburgh Penguins back in the 2020 NHL entry draft and was the central piece of the Rickard Rakell trade with the Penguins back in March 2022. The deadline deal saw Rakell head to Pittsburgh in exchange for Clang, Zach Aston-Reese, Dominik Simon and a 2022 second-round selection (Tristan Luneau).

Gibson played in last night’s 5-1 victory over the New Jersey Devils for the Ducks. After stopping 18 of 19 shots, Gibson left the game in the second period.

The reason behind his departure is unknown, but the Ducks return to action this evening when they play the Detroit Red Wings. Gibson will be returning home to celebrate the birth of his child, so Clang will probably be the backup tonight as the Ducks try to continue their winning streak that they ended last night.
