The prospects of every major league team will be highlighted in a brand-new showcase this spring, giving fans of the Mets, Yankees, and other 28 teams a glimpse into the teams’ future.
The goal of Spring Breakout is to reimagine how the minor leagues are portrayed. Before, fans who were interested in watching prospects had to wait for the one or two at-bats they would get in Grapefruit and Cactus League games, or they had to visit the backfields of Spring Training facilities.
“Spring Breakout presents a fresh chance to exhibit the game’s future stars as they proceed towards the Major Leagues,” stated Chris Marinak, Chief Operations and Strategy Officer of MLB, in a statement on Wednesday. “Our fans will have exclusive chances to interact with our top prospects, get their signatures, and get a close-up look at the future Major League players. We are excited that in order to develop the game and provide a better light for our future All-Stars, Major League Baseball, Minor League Baseball, and all of our Clubs are collaborating more closely than before.”
Major League games in classic doubleheaders and standalone events will be mixed together from March 14–17. All minor leaguers, regardless of experience level, will be included on the rosters.
The following is the schedule for the Mets and Yankees, if that’s all that interests you:
March 15, Friday
Nationals @ Mets, 3:10 p.m. ET (part of a traditional doubleheader)
When the Mets traded Justin Verlander, Max Scherzer, and other players at the trade deadline of the previous season, they piled up on prospects. Star minor league players like Jett Williams, Drew Gilbert, Luisangel Acuna, and many more are expected to be seen by fans.
March 16th, Saturday
Blue Jays @ Yankees, 4:05 p.m. ET (part of a traditional doubleheader)
The Yankees still have some prominent prospects, even though they don’t have as many as the Mets. Spencer Jones, an outfielder, is still the organization’s best prospect and will try to establish himself quickly with his left-handed power.
Fans of the Yankees may also get to see RHP Clayton Beeter, who excelled on the mound during the Spring Breakout in the Futures Game of the previous season.
Rosters will be formally revealed closer to the commencement of Spring Breakout.
