The Mets added a former Dodgers player in free agency.

According to Andy Martino of SNY, the New York Mets and OF Trayce Thompson have reached an agreement on a minor league contract. For New York, the addition isn’t revolutionary, but Thompson has shown promise in the past.

This could end up being a signing that pays off in a major way during the 2024 season.

Trayce Thompson’s potentialThompson was discussed as the starting centerfielder for the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2023. After James Outman took over at center field for LA, he had a fantastic rookie season.

The 32-year-old did, however, record a.901 OPS in 74 games with the Dodgers in 2022. Aside from a thrilling game in which he hit three home runs, his numbers fell off significantly in 2023.

His final 2023 slash line in 72 games between the Dodgers and Chicago White Sox was.163/.285/.294/.579, as he concluded his career. The Mets are undoubtedly hoping he returns to form from 2022 and has a significant impact this year.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto, a starting pitcher, is anticipated to be pursued by the Mets in MLB free agency. It seems that Yamamoto is the top free agent target for New York. It wouldn’t be shocking, though, if the Mets also extended generous contract offers to other elite free agents.

Following their 2022 postseason run, the Mets had a difficult 2023 season. Despite being predicted to be a World Series contender, they were unable to make it to the postseason. It won’t help the Mets’ situation to play in the loaded NL East division, which includes the Philadelphia Phillies and the Atlanta Braves, two of the best teams in baseball.
