Barr returned to the Vikings after playing for the Cowboys the previous season.

Is Anthony Barr’s reunion with the Vikings likely to end soon?

Rumor has it that the Cowboys, having missed out on signing Shaq Leonard to the rival Eagles, may try to sign Barr from Minnesota’s practice squad. Former Cowboys scout and current Dallas radio host Bryan Broaddus first proposed it.

Barr may not be gone for good, but it’s intriguing to consider as a possibility when it comes from a reliable source.

Barr played his first eight seasons under Mike Zimmer in Minnesota before joining Dan Quinn and the Cowboys for the 2017 season. Prior to joining the Vikings practice squad a few weeks ago, he had not played football this season. This was due to Jordan Hicks being placed on injured reserve.

Barr has since been called up for the Broncos and Bears games, and he has participated in 25 defensive snaps overall. In the few plays he has had, he has shown promise, recovering a crucial fumble against Chicago and recording a third-down stop in Denver.

This season, Barr has one more opportunity to be promoted from the practice squad to the Vikings’ active roster. He would then need to be added to their 53-man roster in order to play in more games. The Vikings may also make an offer to him if the Cowboys attempt to steal him and add him to their active roster. He would have to decide what to do if that occurred.

The 9-3 Cowboys, who have Leighton Vander Esch and DeMarvion Overshown on injured reserve, need another option at left guard. Leonard was a finalist for them, but he ultimately signed with the Eagles.

The Vikings are optimistic that Hicks will return before the regular season concludes. Ivan Pace Jr., a rookie inside linebacker, will lead the way in the interim.
