“No one can match Messi in the way they delight us with their performances,” says Lineker
Gary Lineker, a legendary former soccer player from England, praised Lionel Messi’s incredible performance and called the forward from Inter Miami the “greatest player of all time.”
According to the BBC, Lineker made the comments in response to a question about which player in the world right now—Messi or Al-Nasr forward Cristiano Ronaldo—is the best in recent memory.
He selects the Argentine football player’s side.
“Messi is now certainly considered the greatest player of all time. There are people who compare him to Cristiano Ronaldo in terms of performance. But in my opinion, no one can match Messi in the way they delight us with their performances,” Lineker said in an interview.
It is important to note that Messi signed a contract with the American team through 2025 after joining them in the summer of 2023 as a free agent.
The Argentina national team captain participated in 14 games for Inter Miami last season, recording 11 goals and 5 assists.
Legends of football Ronaldo and Messi will play each other again in Saudi Arabia in February of the following year.
The pair recently squared off against one another on the football field in January of this year, with Messi’s Paris Saint-Germain defeating Riyadh All-Stars XI 5-4 in the Kingdom.
Given that Messi and Ronaldo are nearing the end of their careers on different continents, many think that this would be the last time they share a pitch.
For over a decade, both strikers have dominated international football; in 2008, Ronaldo won the first of his five Ballon d’Or awards. He and Messi have shared the coveted trophy twelve times between them over the next fourteen years.
Although there was much debate among fans regarding who was better, Messi’s eight Ballon d’Or records and Argentina’s 2022 World Cup victory are likely to have put an end to that debate.
The forthcoming friendly in February will surely rekindle the debate about Messi and Ronaldo’s respective legacies.
