Since his forced absence, Rodri’s value to Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City has become even more evident.

Despite having a roster full of elite players, Rodri, a defensive midfielder, may be the most crucial member of Manchester City’s winning group.

Rodri’s absence from some of City’s games this season has already proven to be a challenge for Pep Guardiola’s squad, as they have struggled without him. Even though they are both skilled players, Mateo Kovacic and Kalvin Phillips have not been able to cover for him.

After being shown a straight red card for violent behavior during City’s September match against Nottingham Forest, Rodri was suspended for three matches and was unable to play against Newcastle in the Carabao Cup, Wolves, and Arsenal in the Premier League.

Many thought the Blues would handle it well, especially with a squad depth as strong as City’s, but they ended up losing all three, which is unprecedented under Pep Guardiola.

This made people wonder if Rodri is the most crucial member of City’s team. While Kevin De Bruyne has missed most of the season thus far, Julian Alvarez has emerged as City’s standout attacking midfield player. As one of the few players to start every Premier League game for the Blues this season, Alvarez has reinforced Guardiola’s emphasis on having a deep squad.

Following Rodri’s suspension, City resumed winning after defeating RB Leipzig in the Champions League. This was followed by victories of 2-1 against Brighton and 3-0 in the derby against Manchester United, which helped his team climb back to the top of the Premier League standings.

For City, Rodri is renowned for his ability to dominate the park’s center both on offense and defense. He may have made a mistake against Nottingham Forest, but in the many games he has played for the Premier League winners, he has hardly made a mistake.

Rodri helps City maintain possession throughout games, which is something they enjoy doing. His passing is a crucial component of his style and aids City in playing the style that manager Pep Guardiola desires.

The Blues are concerned about whether Rodri will be injured this season or serve another suspension. Following the international break, City’s schedule is tough, with matches against Aston Villa, Spurs, and Liverpool—three of the Premier League’s top teams. Rodri has already received four yellow cards; if he is booked again against Liverpool, he will be unable to play in the vital match on December 3 against Spurs.
