On Monday, President Joe Biden hosted the Vegas Golden Knights, the reigning Stanley Cup champions, at the White House for their championship celebration.
Biden joked about the Philadelphia Eagles skipping town and what would happen to him as he discussed how Las Vegas was turning into one of the best sports cities with teams like the WNBA’s Aces and the NHL’s Golden Knights.
“And in one of the best American sports cities, you’re creating a legacy together. Indeed, in September, after the Las Vegas Aces had won back-to-back WNBA titles, Kamala hosted them,” Biden remarked.
“I just want to make one thing clear: If the Philadelphia Eagles move on, I’ll get divorced. “It’s a long story, but I married a Philly girl,” he remarked, addressing his spouse Jill.
The first lady had previously visited Lincoln Financial Field to support her team, the Eagles. However, there’s no way the team is going to head to Sin City. Allegiant Stadium is already home to the Raiders. The Oakland Athletics are probably coming to town soon.
“You’re proving Vegas sports is one of the best shows in town,” Biden stated.
The Golden Knights’ title defense is getting off to a fast start. In 15 games, Vegas has 12 victories. The team’s consistency, according to coach Bruce Cassidy, made the season seem like an extension of the previous one.
Jack Eichel remarked, “It makes days like today more enjoyable.” Our season has gotten off to a solid start. want to carry on doing that, without a doubt, but it’s a celebration of our achievements from the previous year before we get back to work.”
With everything going on in the world, Alec Martinez, a member of the Los Angeles Kings championship winning team, expressed his happiness that the president made time for them.
“Obviously, there’s a lot more important things on hand for him to do,” Martinez stated. “So, to take a little bit of time out of their day to allow us to have this experience is pretty special.”
Mark Stone made a speech after Biden and said it was the most nervous he’s been.
“It was probably the most nervous I’ve ever been,” he stated. “I believe I had a few drinks when I spoke at the parade in Vegas, so it was a little bit easier to do that one. It was, however, extremely nerve-wracking because the president was only a few feet away.”
