When the incident happened, the 27-year-old basketball player was strolling close to his home.
He was taken to a nearby hospital right away, where he was treated and kept in stable condition.
The team representative said that Oubre Jr. was discharged from the hospital. Although he will not play for the remainder of the season, it is anticipated that he will miss a substantial period of it.
The spokesman added that Oubre Jr. will receive the required medical attention and close supervision from the 76ers medical staff.
Nevertheless, no precise information regarding his wounds was made public.
To encourage Oubre Jr. during this trying time, members of the Philadelphia 76ers organization, including team president Daryl Morey, have assembled at the hospital.
According to the Philadelphia Police, who are presently looking into the event, Oubre Jr. was struck at the junction of Broad and Locust streets in Center City at around 7pm
Witnesses claimed to have seen a silver car involved in the collision drive away.
Kelly Oubre Jr. signed a one-year contract to play with the Philadelphia 76ers earlier this season.
Since then, he has averaged 16.3 points per game and shot an amazing 50% from the field, significantly contributing to the team’s success.
His play has been outstanding, especially after P.J. Tucker left in the James Harden trade.
The 76ers will play their next game against the Indiana Pacers on Sunday in spite of this defeat.
On the other hand, Oubre Jr.’s absence will surely affect the team’s on-court dynamics.
Supporters and players alike are wishing for a speedy recovery and his return to action.
