Darwin Nunez, a star for Liverpool, has enormous potential, according to Jurgen Klopp.

Darwin Nunez appears to be finally adjusting to life on Merseyside wearing Liverpool jerseys. Following a challenging season for both the team and himself the previous season, the 23-year-old international from Uruguay faced a great deal of online abuse and trolling. Manager Jurgen Klopp spoke to the media prior to the Reds’ trip to Luton Town and had nothing but good things to say about the former Benfica player.

As everyone knows, Darwin had a very difficult season the previous one. Undoubtedly, the early dismissal against Crystal Palace hindered his rhythm. We can only imagine how difficult it was for him to find himself in a place where very few people speak the same language as him, especially after joining a Liverpool team that was going through a transition of its own.

Not everyone is superhuman, even though there are freaks like Erling Haaland who recently arrived and completely changed the Premier League. In any case, it did not help that the season began with comparisons to the Norweigan. However, things appear to be shifting this season, and Darwin appears to be settling in. It would just be about delivering consistent work and supporting the team going forward.

Here is what manager Jurgen Klopp had to say about Darwin to the media ahead of our match against Luton Town, as reported by Liverpool Echo:

He can now speak English much more fluently. He’s in a great place right now, everything has changed, and this is just the beginning. May it go on forever. I’m worried about the heights he might go to. Now let’s get to work.

Nunez Nunez Nunez!

A video of Nunez’s recent Carabao Cup goal against Bournemouth perfectly captures his life thus far in England. A finish that would have made Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Luis Suarez proud, but a first touch that would have embarrassed most. Tough beginnings, but world-class potential.

Darwin has seven goals and five assists in 14 appearances across all competitions this season, and he is off to one of the best starts of his second season with the Reds. He made a case for himself to start this weekend against Luton Town after coming off the bench to score against the Cherries.

Given that he has a tonne of options for the front line, it would be interesting to watch how Jurgen Klopp selects his starting lineup for the Reds’ trip to Kenilworth Road. Diogo Jota and Cody Gakpo, for example, have both scored in their most recent games for the team, so anyone who suggests Mohamed Salah should be benched given his performance this season would have to be kidding.

Darwin appears to have a very bright future ahead of him, and we can only hope that he reaches his full potential. Given that he has the right people in his life to support him through difficult times, the likelihood of that happening is quite high. Realising his potential would undoubtedly be aided by Jurgen Klopp and company. Maybe go even farther than that.
