Following their 2-1 League Cup victory over Bournemouth, Liverpool’s mentality was commended, with two players in particular standing out.

Despite challenging circumstances on the south coast on Wednesday night, the Reds defeated a resolute Bournemouth team to advance to the quarterfinals.

Darwin Nunez scored a stunning goal, and Cody Gakpo also scored for Jurgen Klopp’s team. This team feels like it is headed for success.

The Reds are the favourites to win the competition this season because Man City has already been eliminated and Arsenal and Man United were both eliminated on the same night.

This is how some of the media responded to Liverpool’s triumph.

An encounter Liverpool might have lost previous year

“On the south coast, there were moments when Storm Ciaran’s squall made the weather so incredibly unpredictable that it looked like Liverpool’s Carabao Cup campaign might be derailed.

“Jurgen Klopp’s team faced a gale blowing straight down the middle of the pitch towards their goal after the break, despite having taken the lead through a goal from Cody Gakpo in the first half.

“Every in-swinging corner that Bournemouth made appeared as though it might be caught in a gust and blown straight into the net. The visitors made hilarious attempts to clear the air, swirling high into the sky and then back down again.

“Before their passage was assured, there were tense moments, but it would be sufficient to propel the Merseysiders into the final eight of a tournament they had won two years prior.”

Jeremy Wilson of the Telegraph, meanwhile, concentrated on Nunez’s historic winning goal:

“A winner who could be considered a winner from the gods emerged from the centre of the storm, regardless of the weather.

“First up, Darwin Nunez, who showed he was unfazed by ferocious gusts of wind and sideways rain on the Dorset coast, with a fantastic curling finish into the upper corner.

“After such a difficult few days for the club, Nunez’s incredible intervention to secure Liverpool’s spot in the League Cup quarterfinals came after he had only been on the pitch for ten minutes.”

Quansah was outstanding in the defensive core.

David Lynch praised Quansah’s performance on X:

“Tonight, Jarell Quansah is my man of the match.”

“Handled every challenge that Bournemouth and the weather threw at him. He also demonstrated his exceptional skill with the ball at his feet.

“He’s just twenty!”

Momentum is building around Liverpool

Delgado was optimistic about winning the League Cup:

“The Reds will anticipate victory in their upcoming Premier League encounter against Luton Town, which will require a rare trip to Kenilworth Road.

“Beyond that, the Reds’ chances of winning the EFL Cup were already slim to none; they will be even lower now that they lost to both Arsenal and Manchester United on the same night that we defeated the Cherries.

“On their day, West Ham and Everton might be challenging opponents, but as of right now, Newcastle is the “best” remaining team.

“The only possible issue is that the match in the round of eight will take place between league matches against United and Arsenal, who will now, naturally, not be playing the same midweek match.

“Liverpool is looking good and is still going strong.”
