Andoni Iraola responds after Bournemouth’s 2-1 Carabao Cup loss to Liverpool.
Jurgen Klopp, in the eyes of Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola, gave his team a high five during their loss to Liverpool.
In their League Cup fourth-round match at the Vitality Stadium on Wednesday night, the Reds prevailed 2-1 thanks to goals from Cody Gakpo and substitute Darwin Nunez.
After trailing at the half, the home team rallied mightily and took advantage of the windy conditions, with Justin Kluivert tying the score halfway through the second half.
Iraola also mentioned that the Reds started Nunez, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Diogo Jota, Alexis Mac Allister, and Ryan Gravenberch from the bench.
The Bournemouth manager stated, “We had a lot of chances and performed really well.” “We made progress during the match. However, moving on to the next round of this competition is the most crucial thing.
“We knew it was going to be tough when the draw was made, but there were some strong teams out (already) and it was a great chance to advance.
“Liverpool finished the game with most of their starting XI and they had to work really hard to beat us.”
Iraola continued, “We were very close. The game was moving in our favour in the second half. We had the wind to our advantage, but we struggled and couldn’t kick it long in the first half. It appeared as though we might have won with a second goal.
“But in the end, Darwin’s goal—which was an incredible strike—made the difference. It most likely gave them the winning opportunity when they were at their worst during the match.
“The first goal we conceded from the edge of the area. The first clearance, with the wind and the rain it wasn’t easy. It wasn’t the same quality as if the conditions are good. But the conditions affected both teams in both areas.”
