In Liverpool’s victory over Bournemouth, Darwin Nunez produced a spectacular goal, earning Jurgen Klopp a lot of praise. But there was one question about it that the boss didn’t like.
Darwin Nunez scored a spectacular goal on Wednesday night to put Liverpool ahead of Bournemouth after coming off the bench. It proved to be an extremely tough game, with both sides having to deal with disruption caused by Storm Ciaran.
Throughout the game, participants were left questioning their decisions due to the exceptional wind and rain. That was well capitalised by Bournemouth in their equaliser; any ball into the box was going to cause problems.
That being said, the game truly required someone to step up and deliver work of unquestionable quality. Nunez, who entered the game as a second-half substitute, delivered exactly that.
The attacker mishandled a long ball that Trent Alexander-Arnold sent up the pitch with his first touch. The home fans started to jeer at it, but they were soon quieted.
After regaining possession of the ball, Nunez lifted his defender and unleashed an incredible 20-yard dipping strike that soared over the custodian. It couldn’t be stopped.
Naturally, Jurgen Klopp was enthralled with what he saw.
In his press conference after the game, Klopp observed, “Darwin shows his class and puts the game pretty much to bed for us.” “That’s an amazing objective. Although there were five, six, or seven far better opportunities throughout the entire game, we needed that goal.”
In fact, the final question of the press conference was whether or not Darwin had “used the wind” to make it happen. That remark did not sit well with Klopp, who retaliated slightly against the interviewer.
“If you can do that, that’s really good!” laughed he. “That would be very impressive. I didn’t ask him; I simply loved the goal, so you’d have to.”
