Liverpool is a self-assured team that gets better every week. They defeated Nottingham Forest 3-0 on Sunday.

Liverpool had trouble playing teams lower on the table, teams that packed it in and played obstinate football, during the previous campaign. They triumphed easily on Sunday against a deep-stacked Nottingham Forest team that played tough football.

At the end of the day, their 3-0 victory felt entirely deserving, and there were strong performances all over the pitch as the Reds played a patient game and believed that, eventually, Forest would falter. Dominik Szoboszlai thought back on the victory thereafter.

“The new midfield sensation for Liverpool declared, “We are ready for every team.” We can accomplish a lot as a team this season. We just need to keep going in the same direction as we started. All we need to do is put in as much effort as we can, and it will eventually pay off.”

Although the teams they are chasing won their games over the weekend, their fourth-place finish—three points ahead of unexpected leaders Tottenham—and their 23 points from ten games provide a strong base for a team that can only become better.

There were doubts before the season began about how long a completely reconstructed midfield, which includes Wataru Endo, Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister, and Szoboszlai, may take to gel. No time at all has been the response.

Liverpool’s next match is against Bournemouth in the League Cup Round of 16, so expect a large rotation going forward. However, with the players they have these days, even a heavy rotation should include a lot of well-known players.
